An inbox and a forwarding address do different jobs
TempMail provides an inbox you read on this website for a selected lifetime. You do not connect an existing personal mailbox, and this public service does not forward incoming messages to one.
A forwarding alias or email mask is a different arrangement: someone sends to the alias, and the provider forwards the message to your existing inbox. Mozilla describes Firefox Relay masks in this way. Your original address can stay hidden from that sender, while the alias provider still manages the forwarding relationship.
Retention depends on the particular service
TempMail's available lifetimes are 10 minutes, 1 hour, 24 hours and 3 days. You can destroy the inbox sooner, and there is no recovery function afterwards.
Aliases are not all disposable. SimpleLogin states that its aliases remain until the user deletes them. Other providers can have different account, forwarding and retention rules. A forwarding address is not an independent permanent mailbox or a promise that the provider will operate forever.
Match the choice to future contact
For a short task where you do not need later messages, a temporary inbox can be convenient. For an ongoing relationship, a managed alias may make it easier to keep receiving email in a mailbox you already use.
Check whether you will need replies, sending, attachments, recovery messages or continuing address control. Do not assume TempMail provides those capabilities because a different email service does. Important accounts deserve a contact method you can keep accessing.
Neither option guarantees acceptance
The receiving website can decide whether to accept temporary addresses or aliases. Mozilla and SimpleLogin both document situations where websites reject their addresses. Check the website's policy and use a different appropriate contact method if required.
Compare the actual privacy policy and data flow too. No registration, forwarding and hiding your main address describe different features; none of them alone is a complete anonymity or account-security guarantee.
